Organizers
The organ festival is organised by a
society called Urkumusiikkia Meänmaassa /
Orgelmusik i polcirkelland. The chairwoman
of the society is Katrin Meriloo
Katrin
Meriloo is one of the most outstanding
young concert organist from the Nordic and
Baltic countries of today. She has graduated
from two Universities with concert diplomas
in organ performance. Studies at
Sibelius-Academy Helsinki, Finland with
professor Kari Jussila and at Luleå
University/ Music College in Piteå, Sweden
with professor Hans-Ola Ericsson were
finished with highest possible marks.
Meriloo has won several
awards and prizes, including the First prize
at the Lahti International Organ Competition
in 1997. In 1998 she was one of the
finalists in the prestigious Royal Bank
Calgary International Organ Competition in
Canada, and in 2001 she won second prize at
the International Schnitger competition in
Alkmaar, Netherlands. She has performed over
200 recitals in various places of Europe:
Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland,
Baltic countries, Germany, Austria, Czech
republic, France, Netherlands, Switzerland
and Belgium, and appeared at major
international festivals. As a soloist,
accompanist and continuo player she has
collaborated and recorded with many
soloists, choirs and orchestras. In addition
she made several radio and television
recordings for Finnish and Swedish
broadcasting companies. Currently Meriloo
lives in Sweden, where she works as organist
at Övertorneå church with the unique baroque
organ from 1608. Meriloo also continues her
work as organ teacher at Luleå University/
Music College in Piteå. |
